Michael Tañon wins 2nd Runner up in the Metro Manila Regional Finals of the 30th National Quiz Bee

Michael Tañon, division champion of Caloocan City, won 2nd runner-up in the Metro Manila Regional Finals of the 30th National Quizbee held at the SM City Manila last March 6. Tañon competed against nine other division champions representing the following areas: Pasig City, MUNTAPAT (Muntinlupa, Taguig and Pateros), PARLAS (Parañaque and Las Piñas), Pasig-Marikina, Quezon City, Makati City, VALMANA (Valenzuela, Malabon and Navotas), Manila, and Mandaluyong.
In the official website of the The National Quiz Bee, the competition is described as "the longest running and most respected nationwide academic competition in the country and it aims to strengthen education by promoting academic excellence in Philippine history, mathematics, science & technology; good values, leadership, peace, unity, brotherhood and love of country."

Michael Tañon, a fifth-grader of SMGS, won 1st place in the 30th National Children’s Quiz Bee held last February 6 at the SM North Edsa. Tañon, who answered all the questions correctly except one, competed against other students representing various schools in Caloocan City. He shall be competing in the Metro Manila Regional Finals of the Division Champions on March 6. Studio 23 will telecast the event.

Our Future Chess Masters

Michael Tañon, Almildbert Eucogco and Daniel de Vera were among the winners in the Chess Universe City (CUC) 1st Student Chess Olympics held last November 22 at the SM Megamall. Out of the 400 participating schools nationwide, Tañon and Eucogco ranked #43 and #51 respectively (elementary category), while de Vera ranked #45 (high school category). La Salle Greenhills, Adamson University and Far Eastern University were among the schools that participated in this nationwide event.
